Welcome! My years of teaching have come with their bumps and bruises as well as tons of joy and laughter. My hope for this blog is that through reading through my lessons, it'll save you from a few bumps and bruises of your own and add more hints of joy. Most of my blog entries are sequential, so please start at the bottom and work your way up! Happy reading!

My Classroom

I know that seeing other classrooms always gives me ideas for my own classroom. So with that, here are some pics of my ever changing classroom. Enjoy!

CLASSROOM LIBRARY

My motto is if you want to stress the importance of being a proficient reader, then have lots of books. Let them see from the moment they walk into your room that reading is important and they will be doing a lot of it!

COMPUTER ZONE

I've been very fortunate to have laptops donated to my classroom. I have a dedicated area where students can go to finish up typing their essays and print out their published work.
TEACHER DESK

I do not sit at my desk very often so I have it tucked at the back of the room behind some of my library shelves.

REFERENCE SHELF

I keep a shelf with all my personal books on teaching, binders, and materials I do not want students using.

NON-FICTION AREA

I keep a non-fiction area in my classroom area too. I keep magazines and other non-fiction books.

STUDENT CUBBIES

Each student has an assigned cubby. Inside they keep their writing resources, such as a dictionary and thesaurus. They also keep other workbooks that may not be used often. This keeps their desks less congested.

EXTRA DESK/OFFICE AREA

Here is an extra desk I keep for as needed use. Typically if I break kids into groups, it provides another work space. I also keep a stapler, hole punch, tape, paper. It is our one stop office area.

SUPPLY CONTAINERS

At the back counter, I keep containers of necessary materials. I have a container for each supply: markers, colored pencils, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, and scissors.
